Final New Dads information meeting
Start spreading the news! There will be two registration and tribe formation meetings for potential Y Guides and Princesses. There are two separate meetings, and you will need to come to the meeting that corresponds to your zip code. The meeting dates and corresponding zip codes are listed below. If you want to be part of the Y Guides and Princesses Program, you need to attend your assigned meeting! If you do not attend, you run the risk of not getting in the program. Registration PDF available here.
At the meeting we will be discussing the program and forming tribes. This meeting is for DADS ONLY, with rising first graders. If your child is in the second or third grade, you will need to join an existing tribe (see web article below). Many Dads come to this meeting with their tribes already formed, which is great. However, it is perfectly fine to come without a tribe, and find other Dad’s at this meeting to start a tribe. Most tribes are formed based on this “pot-luck” system. For any questions, please refer to the website at www.how-how.org, or call Matt Strickland at (919) 719-9691.
Meeting 3: Rainbow Lanes, Clayton
Monday, Sept. 20 7:00 p.m.
Special meeting for Johnston County fathers. More info here.
Joining an Existing Tribe
If you are the dad of a rising second or third grader and would like to join the Y Guides and Princesses Program, you will need to join an existing tribe. To join the program you must first send the program staff an email requesting information on tribes in your area. You will need to include in the email your child’s gender, school grade, and your zip code. The staff will respond to you with a list of tribes and chiefs in your area. It is up to you to call those chiefs to see if they are willing to bring on a new pair into the tribe. It is up to the tribe if they allow new members. Once you get into a tribe you will then need to come to the Y Guides office to register, and pick up your program supplies. We only offer this service from August 1-October 1. You can send your request emails to andrew.crook@ymcatriangle.org.
Dues Info & Trailseekers!
2010-2011 Program Dues
We would like to start off by saying that dues are vital to the livelihood of our program. They allow us pay for all of the patches and program supplies, they pay for the staff, and they allow us to continue to keep the cost down on many of the events like Fall and Spring Outing. Trailblazers no longer have to pay dues. We are counting on all you chiefs to help make sure that we get all the dues in for the upcoming season. The 2010-2011 dues will be $92 per pair for non-members of the YMCA, $74 per pair for members of the YMCA. For each additional child in the program the fee is $28 for YMCA members and $34 for non-members of the YMCA. Dues must be paid before Friday, October 1, 2010. You must pay your dues before or at the same time that you register for the Third Year Date Night, and Third Year Fall Outing. Dues may be paid by several methods: over the phone with a credit card (Visa, Master Card, & American Express), by mail with a check, or in person (check, cash, or credit). To make payment over the phone, please call Renee Holley at (919) 719-9693, or Jessica Howard at (919) 719-9695. Registration PDF available here.

Fall Outings at Camp Kanata
We hope that everyone is getting excited about the upcoming fall season! The Camp Kanata Fall Outing for Y Guides and Princesses is an awesome way to kick-start a great year with the tribe. Our program is blessed with large numbers of dads and kids, and because we have such big groups we have made some exciting changes to the Fall Outing this year. We are going to have a separate Third Year Fall Outing each weekend. The First and Second Year Fall Outings will remain the same as in the past.
The Third Year Fall Outings will be spread over four Saturdays in the fall at Camp Kanata. The weekend breakdowns are listed below! Your third year tribe will be assigned to a specific Saturday event. Each Saturday event will begin at 9:00 a.m. where we will have an amazing assortment of activities. Please feel free to bring you own sports equipment and cooking supplies/food (you will need to bring food for lunch). The activities will close at 5:00 p.m. and we will have a special Third Year campfire down by the lake. The Third Year campfire will be a new addition to the Fall Outing. We will have a great program and a bear claw exchange for the dads and kids.
Third Year tribes have the opportunity to enter the lottery for a cabin to spend the night at Camp Kanata. We have limited space for some tribes to spend the night on Friday night before the Fall Outing, and some tribes on Saturday night of the Fall Outing. The lottery for the cabins will be held at the Fall Chief’s Meeting in August. Tribes that win cabin space in the lottery will be able to register/pay for the overnight experience at camp. The registration fee for spending the night includes overnight accommodations, breakfast, dinner, an after dinner snack, and an evening program. The registration fee for this program is $45 per person. Registration forms and payment information will be sent to the winning tribes after the August Chief’s Meeting. Tribes that just come out on their assigned Saturday for the day and the campfire do not need to register, and the event is free.

Saturday November 6 3rd Year Princesses (N-Z)
Saturday November 13 3rd Year Guides (A-M)
Saturday November 20 3rd Year Guides (N-Z)
The Fall Outing for the First and Second Year Tribes will be spread over four Sundays in the fall at Camp Kanata. The weekend breakdowns are listed below! Your tribe will be assigned to a specific Sunday event based upon your tribal name. Each Sunday event will begin at 1:00 p.m. Get ready to discover the wooded oasis within Wake County. Tribes are free to bring their own sports equipment, go hiking (you need to complete your hiking requirement for the feather), and bring your fishing equipment. Remember to bring all of your own food and cooking supplies. We will also have a Y Guides and Princesses store open with cool gear. The day will conclude with a special campfire down by the lake which will begin at 5:30 p.m. Second Year Tribes need to bring one torch per pair for the campfire ceremony. You need to provide the toilet paper for the torch, and we will provide kerosene and a light. The instructions for making a torch are here. We look forward to seeing you all out at camp in the fall!
